Clearnet does not supply detailed maps of digital coveage areas; this map shows Victoria's current digital PCS and Mike footprints. Cell locations are noted; however you may wish to view the detailed Victoria maps for exact locations and PN offsets.
Clearnet's active digital PCS towers are at the following locations:
Clearnet brings all-inclusive digital PCS service to Victoria
VICTORIA, December 1, 1998 - Clearnet Communications Inc.
("Clearnet") today turned on fully digital Clearnet PCS service in
Victoria, offering clients an array of all-inclusive, enhanced
digital calling features and services at far less than the cost of
traditional cellular.
"Digital Clearnet PCS service brings our current clients in Victoria
immediate benefits at no extra charge, including greater call
clarity, enhanced security, longer battery life and new information
services," said David Christie, Clearnet’s Vice President, Western
Region. "New clients will find that Clearnet PCS is one of the
easiest PCS products to buy and own in Canada - all the extras, such
as voice mail, call waiting and caller ID, are standard with Clearnet
PCS. Clients need only add voice."
Clearnet brought its digital PCS service to BC with the launch of
Clearnet PCS in the Lower Mainland last year, launching analogue
cellular service in Victoria at the same time.
With this expansion, Clearnet now offers digital Clearnet PCS service
throughout the Victoria area, north along Pat Bay Highway to Royal
Oak Drive, east and south along the Juan de Fuca Strait and west
along the Island Highway to Colwood.
Clearnet PCS phones work everywhere analogue cellular phones work
across Canada. Clearnet’s unique dual-mode PCS phone, built for
Clearnet by Sony, operates as a digital phone in digital service
areas and as an analogue cellular phone in the rest of Clearnet’s
national service area, which now covers 94 per cent of the Canadian
population. Digital service is also offered in Vancouver, Calgary,
Edmonton, Montréal, Québec City, Ottawa-Hull, Toronto, the Kitchener-
Waterloo region, London, and Southern Ontario’s Golden Horseshoe.
In Victoria, Clearnet PCS is available at retail outlets operated by
London Drugs, Future Shop, Office Depot, Staples, Toys "R" Us, The
Sony Store, Grand & Toy, Speedy Auto Glass, Save-On-Foods,
CompuCentre, CompuSmart, The University of Victoria computer store,
and at Clearnet authorized dealers Glentel Wireless Wave and Sprint
Radio Systems. Shop-at-home clients can order Clearnet PCS directly
from either the Clearnet Web Store, a secure and direct online system
available at http://www.clearnet.com, or by calling 1-888-CLEARNET.
"There has been record-breaking response in the marketplace to the
launch of Clearnet PCS across Canada. We’re delighted we can now
offer the full functionality of digital PCS to the people of
Victoria," said George Cope, Clearnet’s President and CEO.
Clearnet added 48,148 new digital clients in the most recent reported
quarter, ended September 30, 1998. That brought Clearnet’s total
number of clients across Canada to more than 290,000, up from 152,000
at the beginning of 1998. With the addition of Victoria, POPs covered
by Clearnet PCS (the number of people residing in a Clearnet coverage
area with digital Clearnet PCS service) have increased to
approximately 13.41 million.
Clearnet PCS: Easy to Buy, Easy to Own
With Clearnet PCS, there are no activation fees or contracts to sign.
Clearnet PCS also offers included calling features, such as toll-free
voice mail access, call waiting and caller ID, at no extra charge and
offers a 30-day money-back satisfaction phone guarantee. And just to
make things more personal, Clearnet gives all its PCS clients
unlimited local calling on their birthdays every year.
The Clearnet PCS dual-mode Sony phone costs $149.99. Clients can
choose from four straightforward and affordable airtime packages, two
aimed at consumers and two for business users. Unlike some
competitors, Clearnet always bills clients at one talk-time rate, no
matter whether they use their phones in digital or analogue cellular
service areas across Canada. And Clearnet is still the only wireless
company in Canada to bill all calls by the second from the very first
second.
Clearnet PCS is also as easy to use across the United States as it is
across Canada. Clearnet’s fixed-rate, automatic US roaming service
offers billing by the second and the use of additional features such
as voice mail and call waiting at no extra charge.
Clearnet (TSE, ME: NET.A; NASDAQ: CLNTF) is a leading Canadian
wireless communications company that operates three wireless
networks: digital Clearnet PCS nationally, the digital Mike network
in Greater Vancouver, Québec and Ontario, and analogue dispatch
communication services across Canada. Founded in 1984 and a public
company since 1994, Clearnet is an independent Canadian controlled
and managed company. For more, please visit Clearnet’s Web site at
