After a very long flight and waiting for the train from the airport. Still another few hours to Sorrento. |
The Leonardo Express takes you into Rome. |
Finally in Sorrento, about 1 hour south of Naples. |
The view of downtown and the water. |
The lemon and olive orchards surround the hills. |
The spring flowers were still present in April. |
We stayed at this B&B overlooking the city for only €77/night! |

|

|
Motocycles are common sights to get around the narrow and steep streets. |
One of two paths from the city to the B&B, about a 15-20 minute walk uphill (this path is also used by cars!) |
 A very neaty-kept graveyard. |
One of the more famous ice cream stops in town. |
Gas stations are just located in little spaces next to streets. |
The waterfront area of Sorrento is built up on a cliff. |
Looking down to the harbour. |
Walking the hilly path back one evening with take away dinner. |
 Lots of lemons! |
Chianti, Brie, and bread on the poach. |
 Off to Pompeii... |

This guy was so proud of this equipment that he had a picture of himself at the front entrance of his house. |
 Turkish baths. |
Altas' holding up a platform. |
Water fountain in a garden. |

|
The train back to Sorrento. Actually a commuter train that starts in Naples. |
Sorrento built up the town centre from a gorge. Look to the left to see the walkway and the right to a very old building below. |
This is what the walkway looks like above. |
Off to Positano via a very windy road. |
 Positano. |
The houses are literally build on top of each other. |
 Narrow street in Positano. |
The museum in Naples has a pornographic section, so here's some interesting photos from that section. |
Yes, it does have wings! |
He must know the guy in Pompeii too. |

View from Naples over to Pompeii and the inactive volcano. |
Naples is also the birthplace of Pizza. Italians know how to do pizza right. Dough, sauce, cheese, and basil. And nothing else on a thin crust. Complete with a big beer for €4! |
The rather friendly dog at the B&B. |
From Sorrento at night looking towards Naples and Pompeii. |
A day trip to Capri Island. |
You can catch a gondola ride from Anacapri to the top of the mountain. |
View from the top of the mountain. I also hid a geocache here. |

|
These little motocycle trucks are very popular and can haul small loads. |
This road must of been at least 30° and is quite typical. |
More Italian engineering feats. Look at the top of the picture for the road that goes from Capri to Anacapri. |
The ferry system is quite simple compared to what we're used to with BC Ferries. And it works much better. |
Time to travel back to Rome for a few days... |
 The Pantheon. |
One of many stolen Eygptian obeliques. |
The streets of Rome are very narrow, but there are many open public squares where you can relax. |

|
The Spanish steps. Police are there to make sure that you don't eat ice cream on the steps. |
Crowded fashion street at the foot of the steps. |
Entrance to St. Peter's Square, Vatican City. |
Close-up of the entrance of the square. |
The Vatican was very quiet during the visit due to the passing of Pope John II. This is his tomb underneath the Vatican. |
 St. Peter's tomb. |
You were allowed to briefly visit the Pope's tomb before being asked to move along. |

|
 Inside the basilica. |

|
View outside the Vatican museum. |
 Overlooking Rome. |
The map archive of the Vatican museum had some old maps. |
 Map hallway. |

|
Campo de Flora square, near where we stayed. |
 Narrow roads. |
Another trip to the Vatican. |
Climbing to the top involves some narrow stairwells. |

|
These are some ruins next to the coliseum. |
